Gledd / The Funk District / Gledd / The Funk District – Our Word / Saint Wax SW028 – Vinyl

A two-way Italian/Mexican stand-off here, as Saint Wax founder Gledd (real name Eduardo Barbi) and Kaninchenbau label chief The Funk District (Fernando Mendoza) deliver their first joint EP since 2022. The latter steps up first with two solo workouts- the Clavinet-splashed nu-disco-goes-bluesy deep house shuffle of ‘The River Bends Back’ and the Rhodes rich deep house disco of ‘Got To Be Alright’ – before the duo combine on two collaborative cuts. ‘I Said’ is a gospel-powered slab of ever-building disco-house hedonism, while ‘Down The Middle’ is deeper, more bass-heavy and topped off with classic soul vocal samples. Gledd then takes over, following the infectious piano house bounce of ‘I Said’ with the colourful, acid-flecked excellence of ‘Blessin’.
